Otherworldly, Lake Huron - a place of stark beauty…

Peg Lariviere

Weather permitting, Gord and I usually visit the 4th Sand Beach on Lake Huron on either New Year’s or Christmas. I didn’t think I would be doing a blog entry until after the holidays, but yesterday, Christmas Day, I found beauty and peace and wanted to share it with you.

In this transitory sanctuary, one encounters a raw beauty that pulses with an otherworldly energy. Every element—the lake, the sand, the sky—conspires to create a haunting symphony of contrasts. The starkness of winter unveils a different kind of vibrancy, a reminder that beauty doesn’t always dazzle; sometimes, it simply breathes.

Visiting the 4th Sand Beach in Blind River in winter is not merely an escape; it is a pilgrimage into a dreamscape that changes with each visit. In this place, where reality and surreality intertwine, one cannot help but feel both insignificant and intimately tied to the universe, lost yet found in the embrace of the extraordinary.

Each visit to Lake Huron reminds me of the importance of pausing and soaking in the world around me. In our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook the quiet beauty surrounding us. Take a moment, if you can, to explore a place that stirs your soul and invites reflection. You might just find, as I did, that true beauty often lies in the simple and the serene.

Wishing you peace and beauty this holiday season, wherever you are.
