Fibromyalgia Triptych Art: Exploring Fibro Pain
I found that my art, along with Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain Management, was instrumental in helping me come to terms with my new life. I used a picture of a tree as the starting point for Fibro Pain.
My skin burned; I couldn’t bear to have my clothes touching me. The discomfort was more than just physical; it delved deep into the emotional turmoil I was experiencing. The dark areas within the body of the abstract signified two heavy burdens: my annoying, irritable bowels, a constant reminder of my stress and anxiety, and my cold heart, a reflection of the distance that had grown between me and those I once called friends. It was painful to realize that my neighbours and so-called companions no longer wanted to know me, as if my struggles had turned me into someone unworthy of their attention. The weight of isolation pressed upon me, and I felt trapped in a body that betrayed me, both inside and out.
Living with fibromyalgia can be incredibly challenging. The widespread pain, severe fatigue, sleep disturbances, and the frustrating "fibro fog" that affects your concentration can make even the simplest daily tasks feel overwhelming. These symptoms not only hinder your ability to work and engage in social activities but can also take a toll on your overall well-being. It’s understandable to feel a sense of sadness or anxiety as you navigate these difficulties, and it's important to remember that you're not alone in this struggle. Your experiences and feelings are valid, and support is available.
I received support through the NeuroNova Centre, founded by Dr. Jackie Gardner-Nix, a physician and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Check it out at: https://neuronovacentre.com/
