A quiet winter landscape stretches out in layers along the North Channel. Up close, dark evergreens stand out as sharp shapes against the snow and ice. Beyond the trees, a wide expanse of water is partially frozen. The bluish ice, marked with rough, white spots, breaks and thins in some areas. Closer to the far shore, the ice turns into open water that reflects the sky and the shoreline’s soft, warm-coloured rocks, which are part of the Niagara Escarpment. Farther away, the blue La Cloche Mountains stretch across the scene, adding a sense of balance. The scene feels calm and thoughtful, full of texture and gentle layers. The air is cool, the silence is deep, and everything seems to change slowly.
This photo was taken from our hotel room at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre in Little Current, on 2026/03/04 at 5 pm. If you’ve visited my Photolog page, you’ll see the same photo taken at the same time of day, but on a different phone, resulting in a brighter, lighter version. I like both, but my go-to critic chose this one for the store page. (Contact me should you wish to purchase the other)
